When Congress couldn’t agree on a new budget and also wouldn’t extend the old budget, it meant that there was...no budget. And with no budget, there was...no money. (Do you see how this could become problematic?) As a result, many government agencies had to close down, and more than 800,000 government workers are out of work until it all gets sorted out. The government shutdown reminded us of the cover of MAD #142 from April 1972. And it also reminded us that — amazing — all of those congressmen and women still DO have a job.
