AWARD TO THE WISE DEPT.
This past July, MAD's own Al Jaffee was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame, one of the most prestigious honors in the world of cartooning. Al was unable to receive the award in person — he was vacationing at his summer getaway, the Retching Jackal Resort & Spa — so MAD Art Director Sam Viviano picked it up in his place. Last week, after three unsuccessful eBay auctions, we decided to finally present Al with his statue here in the MAD offices.
Interestingly, one of Al's earliest jobs was working for Will Eisner in his studio. With this honor, Al's career has completely folded in on itself!
