Washington Wizards reserve center Jason Collins made history this week when he announced that he was gay — becoming the first active, openly-gay NBA player. We completely support Collins’ brave choice to go public — but, c’mon, he’s a fifth-stringer for the Washington Wizards. It’s a cover story for Sports Illustrated, for crying out loud! If they really wanted to move some issues, they should have gone for some bigger star power.

Anyone in the radio and music business knows that MAD illustrator and Art Director Sam Viviano often moonlights as the cover artist for the publication Hits’ annual anniversary issue! This year, to celebrate their 26th (Big Deal! We’re 60!), Sam painted recording star “Adelfred.” When Adele sees this, she’ll finally have something to really be depressed about!
Yesterday, U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps won his 19th Olympic medal, breaking the record for most medals received all-time. He'll long be admired as the most decorated Olympian in history, but we'll always remember him another way...

Building on Toni Morrison declaring that Bill Clinton was "The First Black President," Newsweek this week declared Barack Obama "The First Gay President" on its cover. Given all the press that her magazine received for the cover, it's only a matter of time before Newsweek editor and media opportunist Tina Brown will try to duplicate this success with other ridiculous presidential covers.
Recently Rush Limbaugh bravely called a Georgetown law student testifying before Congress a “slut” who “wants all the sex in the world whenever she wants it, all the time, no consequences.” He then went on to say that if women wanted him to pay for their birth control, he wanted something in return — videos of all these women having sex posted on the internet. It was for Rush’s unique view of women and their needs and place in society, that one magazine has bestowed upon him a special honor.
