10th Anniversary of “Mission Accomplished" Accomplished

CLASSIC MAD DEPT.

Ten years ago today, President George W. Bush dressed up as a fighter pilot (the only incident of presidential cosplay we know of), landed on an aircraft carrier, and declared “Mission Accomplished” in the Iraq War — which actually didn’t end until 2011. So, as Dubya celebrates the opening of his Presidential Library, we celebrate with the cover of MAD #437, on which we anointed his premature declaration of victory as one of The 20 Dumbest Things of the Year for 2003.

Classic MAD: Gulf Wars: Clone of the Attack Poster

CLASSIC MAD DEPT.

This week marks 10 years since the United States invaded Iraq — and 10 years and three months since this prescient poster ran in MAD #424.
With news that the Star Wars franchise will soon be getting a reboot, here’s to hoping that the "Gulf Wars"  series will never be revisited.

PAINT MISBEHAVIN’ DEPT.

When Bush family e-mails were hacked last week, among the leaked information were photos of paintings made by none other than former President George W. Bush. We were shocked to learn that W. has an artistic side, but not so shocked by the paintings’ amateurish mediocrity — the very quality we look for in all MAD illustrators! So we were understandably pleased when he accepted our offer to become our newest cover artist. Now get back to work, George! We need the next cover by Thursday morning!

Dick Cheney Gets a New Heart, MAD Gets a New Reason to Kick Him

CLASSIC MAD DEPT.

On Sunday, former VP Dick Cheney underwent heart transplant surgery. The good news is that the surgery is successful. The bad news is that it’s the perfect opportunity for us to revisit some of our favorite mockery of the Dickster!

EXCLUSIVE: Vice President Dick Cheney’s Resignation Letter

On Tuesday, former Vice President (and unindicted co-conspirator) Dick Cheney will publish his autobiography In My Time. One of the revelations made in the book is that in March 2001, Cheney wrote a letter of resignation and instructed his aides to deliver it to the President if he ever became “incapacitated.” The Idiotical has obtained a copy of this letter.
