Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and all across the nation, parades will be held to celebrate this great occasion. But not all parades are created equal — in fact, some can be downright boring. So it’s up to you to make sure you get the most out of standing on a curb, watching a bunch of people wearing green stumble by. And we’re here to help.
This shouldn’t come as any kind of surprise, but it’s a fact that anyone who works at MAD doesn’t have much of a life. Which means that even on a day off, we still manage to think about MAD! But sometimes that’s a good thing. Like when we come across a cool, weird piece of MAD memorabilia (MADorabilia, if you will) — like this old 3-D postcard made in 1958 by Eden Plastics Corp of NY. Just look at that weird knock-off Alfred! If you have images of vintage MAD/Alfred E. Neuman stuff (even if it’s bootlegs), share it with us in the comments section!
Aerosmith frontman and American Idol Judge Steven Tyler was on tour in Paraguay — that is until he started feeling dizzy and took a tumble in his hotel room! Sure, he got banged up, but there’s a silver lining! He now joins Prince Charles, Ted Koppel and David Letterman in our Celebrity Alfred E. Neuman Look-A-Like Pantheon!
Longtime MAD readers will remember this ill-conceived product from 1987. Warner Books packaged five copies of Howling MAD and five copies of Monster MAD — each 16 pages — with the hope that people would distribute them to trick-or-treaters instead of candy. (Evidently Warner Books thought it was okay to rot kids minds, but not their teeth!) We have no idea if the Halloween giveaway was successful or not, but since we didn’t do it again the following year, we suspect Warner Books lost a bundle on the deal.
