Remembering Bob Clarke, 1926-2013

We’re sad to announce that on Sunday, legendary MAD artist Bob Clarke passed away at the age of 87. Bob was with MAD nearly from the start — first contributing in 1956 and continuing through 2010.

During his amazing career as one of “The Usual Gang of Idiots,” Bob was one of the magazine’s most versatile artists, illustrating everything from covers, to articles, to Spy vs. Spy, to bonus inserts for MAD Specials (including the MAD Zeppelin paper model and the MAD mobile). Bob’s contribution to MAD’s legacy is massive and he’ll be greatly missed. As a way of honoring him and saying thank you, we’ll be showcasing some of Bob’s best MAD work throughout the day.

Matt Lauer and Jay Leno: Unwanted!

HOSTS OF PROBLEMS DEPT.

It’s not a great time to be the longtime host of an NBC show! In the last week, it’s come to light that in addition to swapping out Jay Leno for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, NBC is also possibly looking to replace Matt Lauer with Anderson Cooper on The Today Show. We know that unemployment is a big problem in this country — but in this case, we’re cool with it.

Joe Biden Explains His $585,000 Paris Hotel Bill

GLOOM AND ROOM DEPT.

The cost for Joe Biden to stay for just ONE NIGHT in a Paris hotel is $585,000! That’s according to a recent contract signed with the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand — to be fair, though, that figure also includes rooms for the military, communications, secret service staff and other support professionals that are required to travel with the Vice President. But still — something seems fishy! Luckily, we were able to closely examine the bill — and get Joey’s take on the charges!

Why the Miami Heat Won’t Set the NBA Record for Most Consecutive Wins

WINNER IS COMING DEPT.

The Miami Heat have won 26 games in a row! (Not to be confused with the Charlotte Bobcats — who had 26 people in the stands at their last game.) Right now, the Heat are on pace to beat the Lakers’ 33-game winning streak to have the longest winning streak in NBA history! And even though we’d love to root for a scrappy underdog like LeBron, we have a terrible feeling that it’s not going to happen.

Pitfalls of Taking Kate Upton to Your Prom

A KATE WITH DESTINY DEPT.

They say that high school is the best years of your life. And while that’s normally a bunch of nonsense, it’s probably the case for Jake Davidson. The gutsy senior posted a video on YouTube asking Kate Upton to be his prom date…and it looks like she may actually go! Still, even though it seems like a dream come true, before Jakey puts down a deposit on the limo, he may want to first consider these…
