Happy Birthday, Sigmund Freud!

Today is Sigmund Freud’s birthday! (Hmmm, that’s funny how close it is to Mother’s Day...very telling.) And we can think of no better tribute to the father of modern psychology than to share a few gags from the classic MAD article "Get a New Psychiatrist If..." (Admittedly, we’re terrible when it comes to thinking up tributes...)

Martha Stewart's Honest Match.com Profile

IT’S A GOOD ZING DEPT.

With high-profile stars like Zach Braff pitching projects on Kickstarter, it was inevitable that other sites would also begin hosting notable celebrities desperately in need of...not money, but companionship! It seems that even a one-person conglomerate like Martha Stewart needs some help meeting the guys! (At least she didn’t go to Craigslist!) Of course, on dating sites, being truthful is prized, and that’s why we think “glue gun” Martha should go with our suggestions for a tell-it-like-it-is approach!

10th Anniversary of “Mission Accomplished" Accomplished

CLASSIC MAD DEPT.

Ten years ago today, President George W. Bush dressed up as a fighter pilot (the only incident of presidential cosplay we know of), landed on an aircraft carrier, and declared “Mission Accomplished” in the Iraq War — which actually didn’t end until 2011. So, as Dubya celebrates the opening of his Presidential Library, we celebrate with the cover of MAD #437, on which we anointed his premature declaration of victory as one of The 20 Dumbest Things of the Year for 2003.

The Gay Athlete: LeBron James

MISTAKING JAMES DEPT.

Washington Wizards reserve center Jason Collins made history this week when he announced that he was gay — becoming the first active, openly-gay NBA player. We completely support Collins’ brave choice to go public — but, c’mon, he’s a fifth-stringer for the Washington Wizards. It’s a cover story for Sports Illustrated, for crying out loud! If they really wanted to move some issues, they should have gone for some bigger star power.
